Touching Base

$195.00

This piece was created in recognition of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020. The planetary goings on surrounding the anniversary was of enlightening and startling contrast to the concept and composition of how the day is often thought. This collage was originally called ‘Touching Base’, as in taking an account of how well the Earth Day project was going. The collage uses the earth and other images to tell this tale; electron microscope images of fantastical germs as well as satellite imagery of massive hurricane Florence and the burning jungle in South America. The images are set on field of deteriorated bits of Tibetan prayer flags. In the midst of the Covid Pandemic it seemed the planet needed to be surrounded by prayer flags.

Mixed media of photo copies, prayer flags, acrylic paint.
